My fiance and I want to get some engagement photos done, but we're rather strapped for cash. So I wanted to know if there are any amateur photographers around (students, hobbyists, etc) who need to build their portfolios and who wouldn't mind taking some engagement photos for us. :) We live in Odenton, MD, but we go to DC pretty often -- once or twice a month -- so we can totally swing that, too.

I'll also be checking Craigslist, but I thought I'd give this a shot.

Thanks! :)

HBC + DST

Hello, takers of hormonal birth control and anyone else interested in these kinds of things. :)

For a lot of our members, Daylight Savings Time begins at 2:00am this Sunday, March 14.

In VP, this is often a time when we see quite a few posts by people using HBC (primarily pills), wondering how this affects their protection as well as when they should take their pills due to the time change.

We actually do address this question in this section of our Vulvapedia entry on hormonal birth control. However, because of the number of folks who tend to wonder about this thing twice a year or so, we thought it was worth posting a reminder to the community main page. (And since the question is answered in our HBC Vulvapedia entry, it's also worth noting that it's deletable as a frequently asked question according to VP policy.)

The bottom line: in terms of pill-taking, Daylight Savings Time is not a big deal:
"...if you have otherwise been taking your pills at the same time, changing the time for one pill should not measurably compromise its effectiveness. For people having concerns about Daylight Savings Time changes, you can continue to take your pill at the same clock time since the one-time one hour difference is not likely to alter the pill's overall effectiveness."
You can continue taking your pills at your regular clock time.

If you'd prefer to be extra cautious, there's no harm in using a back up method for 7 days. However, the credible sources we've been able to find -- primarily, the folks over at the Managing Contraception website -- suggest that back-up protection isn't actually necessary as DST shouldn't measurably reduce your protection.

Jesse McCartney has been in the studio recording his fourth LP with producer-songwriter Sean Garrett, who he previously worked with on 2008’s Departure, including the single “How Do You Sleep?” “I’m doing three joints for Jesse on his new album and we got some really, really good shit already,” Garrett tells Rap-Up.com. “I’m really excited about that.”

The soon to be 23-year-old has developed a more R&B sound since his solo debut six years ago. “He’s growing up on this record. I think what’s great about Jesse McCartney is that he definitely has a great voice,” says Garrett. “He could really do whatever he wants to do if he’s just produced well because he has an exceptional voice and he’s poised to really come into his own with this album. If that remains to be the focus, then he’s definitely gonna win.”

Sean also said he’s giving Jesse a leg up in luring the ladies in: “I gave him some swag, not corny swag shit. I wanted to give him real songs, but also give him some shit that has some real swag to it. Girls will be like, ‘Damn, I need to call up Jesse. He’s somebody I need in my life.’ And not just from a corny pop perspective, the Mr. Cool song, but more so like, ‘Damn, I need to see dude.’”

In January, a new demo entitled "Tonight Is Your Night" leaked, produced by The Movement, who also provided his last single "Body Language."

“It’s gonna be kind of a continuation of Departure, but maybe a little more R&B slightly. You’ll get the chance to hear what’s going on in my head right now and a little...more personal” Jesse said of the new material.

“It’s a little bit more raw,” he explained. “But still rhythmic and upbeat. It’s still soulful. I’m still kind of writing it all out. I don’t want to give too much away.”

His new effort will drop later this year.

Shun/Kill, Shag/Fuck, Or Marry: The American Boys Of The Winter Olympics

The Winter Olympics are upon us and though I don’t care enough to actually watch the events, I care just enough to imagine the contenders naked. But it’s sometimes hard to see what’s going on under the layers—the goggles, the winter hats, and the frilly spandex figure skating outfits. This is why I’ve developed an ultra-scientific method combining snap judgments and aesthetics to decide who should be shunned, shagged, or married. And this one’s a doozy.

•SHUN/KILL: Evan Lysacek. The hugely talented figure skater is just too serious. Important in the Olympics, but tedious in a relationship. Even though he’s a very attractive guy, he just looks so stern most of the time—like he’s tracking down puppy killers or something. Plus, when Us Weekly asked Lysacek who his celebrity crush was, he said, “Sienna Miller. I see her at Chateau Marmont all the time, but I’m too intimidated to talk to her,” he said. Maybe it’s just because I inexplicably dislike Sienna, but the combination of her being Lysacek’s type and him name-dropping the Chateau in the process made me wary. And when I heard that he moved to Los Angeles and is taking acting classes, my wariness turned to disgust. He’s ranked second in the world for figure skating—why would he be gifted at acting as well? Will people just give up on thinking they’re going to be actors?

•SHAG/FUCK: Shaun White. Even though I’m deathly afraid of combining redheads to create a Carrot Top ginger kid, there is something so charming about snowboarder/skateboarder Shaun White that the risks can be overlooked. The “Flying Tomato” nickname is pretty unfortunate, but as long as it’s kept out of the bedroom, this could be ignored. Shaun is always being photographed with hot girls, which is not only a challenge but also a better endorsement than Target and Mountain Dew ... in bed. He might not be the cutest of the Olympians but he’s incredibly hip, business-savvy, and confident. His mouth is open in nearly every picture taken of him, locked in an excited goofy grin that shows he’s got a sense of humor and is enjoying life. He’s a professional in two sports and was the first person to pull a 1260 (three-and-a-half rotations) at the Winter X Games. He’s also been making his sponsors crazy amounts of cash, coming up with genius ideas like having Oakley make goggles, Ubisoft make a snowboarding game featuring him, and Burton to make a women’s line. He explained, “You’re not making clothes for the girls I want to hook up with.” And he plays guitar. Genius. Ginger. Bangtastic.

•MARRY: Johnny Weir. Since it is technically the future now, I dictate that it should be perfectly acceptable for a straight woman to marry a gay man. I love figure skater Johnny Weir an unacceptable amount considering I had no idea who he was until I caught his Sundance documentary “Pop Star on Ice” last week. There was some fashion, some figure skating, and some topless manboy hijinks that was uncomfortably hot. After his upcoming reality show (also on Sundance), Johnny wants to go to FIT to study fashion design, which isn’t surprising since he designs his costumes and has also designed costumes for Melissa Gregory, Denis Petukhov, and Oksana Baiul, who was his figure skating inspiration. He’s also modeled for Heatherette and taught Kathy Griffin to skate. Oh, and he’s obsessed with Russia and even taught himself Russian. Sure, it’s an issue that it would be a sexless marriage, but perhaps with some arrangement, you could both attend to your own needs. And if the talent, charisma, and legitimately great sense of humor weren’t enough, he also said, “Most Saturday nights, you will find me at home organizing sweaters or vacuuming or Swiffering, I am very ‘housewife.’” He can dress you and do the housework while being endlessly amazing and hilarious. Isn’t the future awesome?

Matt Reeves has the very difficult and not too popular task of remaking the wonderful Swedish vampire film Let The Right One In. He was taken to task on a SXSW panel when asked about his plans for the feature.

Moderator: I'd like to get onto a topic that is really volatile nowadays with horror fans, both open minded and close minded horror fans, and that is the topic of remakes. The knee-jerk reaction when you are inundated with remakes like, Sorority Row or Prom night, not something half decent like The Crazies, I mean just garbage. When you see that a wonderful film like Let The Right One In and you read an article that it's going to be remade, as a passionate horror fan, your first reaction is to be skeptical, and that's putting it lightly. But from what I've been reading I think it's safe to say that the gentlemen that are involved with the Let Me In remake are madly in love with the source material. And it isn't any kind of mercenary project. So Matt, what do you think about remakes?

Check out the rumored new artwork for MDG, Madonna’s new sunglasses line with Dolce & Gabbana. The shoot was by captured by celeb photographer (and Madge’s friend) Steven Klein. It looks like these are screen captures from a video. The MDG ads will reportedly run through February 2011.

Madonna also recently sealed a deal with Iconix Brand Group. “Joining forces with Iconix to bring my fashion ideas to consumers is very exciting for me,” said the Material Mom.

WILL YOU BUY Madonna’s new MDG sunglasses?

People Tell Me I Look Just Like Stacey Dash

  • Mar. 13th, 2010 at 6:43 PM

Stacey Dash Wants a Second Date with Jamie Foxx

Jamie Foxx turned heads when he showed up to last weekend’s Academy Awards after-parties with Stacey Dash on his arm. Now the Clueless star is opening up about her relationship with the Oscar winner.

The recently divorced actress and mother of two, 43, explained how she was introduced to the actor-singer, 42. “I did his radio show, ‘The Foxxhole,’” she told Wendy Williams, “and after the show he said, ‘Do you want to go with me to some parties Sunday night, Oscar night?’ I was like, ‘Oh, yeah, sure.’ And then he texted me and it was for real.”

Foxx arranged for a car service to pick up his date. “He sent a car for me and then I picked him up. He wasn’t ready though,” she laughed. When she arrived at his place, “His family was there. It was all very, very wholesome. A real first [date].”

The ladies man hasn’t gotten past first base though. “No, I’m not doing that anymore,” Dash responded when asked if they had been intimate on the first date. “At this particular moment in time, this kitty is being held hostage.”

In the meantime, she’ll be waiting for Foxx to ask her out on a second date. “We’re friends. We like each other. He’s a nice guy,” she gushed.

wedding attire

  • Mar. 13th, 2010 at 8:03 PM
So i am going to a wedding next weekend and i am having the hardest, most terrible time trying to find a dress. the only dresses that i have already is a nice little black cocktail dress, and a pinkish jersey dress (both which are nice and about knee length - however, i kind of want a different dress.. i dont know if black is appropriate, and the pink i don't really like anyways).

my problem, is that i'm busty (30D), and a size 2, which makes dress shopping hard... something that fits around my chest tends to be too loose around the waist, and if it fits in my waist, i feel like i'm pouring out of the top of the dress.

also - i am not a fan of these short dresses i'm seeing everywhere. the ones that hit right between the knee and your crotch.. i'll be wearing probably 3-4" heels since thats all i own anyways.. and that would just look skanky in my opinion.

so what would you wear to a wedding? - oh, also, i'm in minnesota.. so the weather is temperamental. i'll most likely choose to wear a cardigan overtop of whatever i get, but yeah.

so ideas please!

Next time on Caprica...

Caprica 1x08 Preview

Last night's episode was actually kind of interesting. What'd you think, ONTD?

Loestrin opinions?

  • Mar. 13th, 2010 at 8:13 PM
Hey all!

I am a 20 yr old who is starting hormonal birth control for the first time. I just had my first lady doctor appointment (which went incredibly well...no pain or discomfort, thank goodness), and the PA prescribed me Loestrin. I want something with as few hormones as possible, so she thought that I should start out with this and see how it works. I know that I also have the options of Nuvaring and the Depo-shot if I don't like taking a pill every day.

Anyway, I kind of looked through the site and didn't find exactly what I wanted. I was wondering if anyone had reviews/opinions of their experience with Loestrin. I would really appreciate it.

Also, as a side note, has anyone ever used the sponge as a form of birth control during sex? My mom has really been urging me to use it, and I'm not so sure. Opinions?

Thanks, guys :]
